The Executive Yuan plans to distribute 10,000 yuan in cash to everyone next year, 80% of the people agree

The Executive Yuan plans to allocate 235.7 billion yuan in the central government's general budget for 2016 and provide a universal cash payment of 10,000 yuan per person next year. In this regard, the Taiwan Inspirational Association (TIA) recently announced the results of the "Taiwan Situation Survey", which showed that 80% of the people agreed, which was higher than the 20% who disagreed. The majority of those who agreed were those with a college degree or below, and those who favored the Democratic Progressive Party and the Kuomintang.

The poll asked how much do people agree with the total budget of 235.7 billion yuan and the universal cash payment of 10,000 yuan per person next year? The results showed that 80% of the people agreed (34% strongly agreed, 46% moderately agreed), which was higher than the 20% who disapproved (14% did not agree very much, 6% strongly disagreed), and 0.2% said they had no opinion or didn't know.

After cross-analysis, in terms of education level, the highest approval rate was 84% for those with a college degree or below, and the lowest 64% for those with a graduate degree. In terms of party affiliation, the approval rates were higher at 82% for the Democratic Progressive Party and 81% for the Kuomintang, while lower at 76% for the People's Party and 76% for those without any political party affiliation.

In addition, the Executive Yuan proposed that next year’s defense expenditure will be approximately 1.1225 trillion yuan, exceeding 3% of GDP, which will mainly be used for armaments, missiles, drones and improving overall defense capabilities. 69% of the public supported it and 30% did not support it. As for the frequent presence of Chinese coast guard ships and research vessels in waters surrounding Taiwan, 82% of the public believe that such "grey zone operations" pose a serious threat to Taiwan's national security, higher than the 18% who said it is not serious.

Chinese state media disseminate China’s stance on cross-strait relations, reunification and Taiwanese politics through interviews with Taiwanese people and social media videos. 71% of the public believe that such practices have a serious impact on public opinion and democratic politics in Taiwan, higher than the 28% who said it is not serious. The Mainland Affairs Council strictly scrutinizes activities sponsored by China's Taiwan Affairs Office that promote reunification and will not allow exchanges in Taiwan. 57% support it and 41% do not support it.

The Taiwanese government continues to approve TSMC's expansion of investment in advanced manufacturing processes in the United States. Some believe this is to deepen the Taiwan-US technology alliance and "non-red supply chain." However, others are worried that the high-tech industry will be hollowed out. 62% of the people support the expansion of Taiwan's high-tech industry and the establishment of factories in democratic partner countries such as the United States and Japan, which is higher than the 37% who express no support.

This survey was commissioned by the Taiwan Inspirational Association and conducted by Hometown Market Research Company. The survey targets people aged 20 and above in counties and cities across the country. The survey period was from September 10th to 15th. The number of valid samples was 600 residential phone samples and 601 mobile phone samples, totaling 1,201.
