Russia announces the downing of more than 800 Ukrainian drones and the killing of 6 people in the largest air attack

Russia said it shot down more than 800 Ukrainian drones overnight, in an air attack that appears to be among the largest attacks launched by Ukraine on Russia since the start of the war, while authorities reported that at least 6 people were killed.

Ukraine has recently intensified the launching of swarms of drones to target sites deep in Russian territory, including warehouses, industrial facilities, and refineries.

The official Russian "TASS" agency reported that the attack was the largest of its kind launched by Ukraine using drones since the beginning of the year, noting that many of the drones targeted the Moscow region, where many members of the Russian elite reside.

The Governor of the Moscow Region, Andrei Vorobyov, said that air defense forces and electronic warfare units shot down or neutralized 187 drones over the region.

Geographically located video footage showed a huge fire breaking out in a warehouse belonging to Wild Berries in the Moscow region, a Russian e-commerce company similar to Amazon. Vorobyov said that the fire did not cause any casualties.

Wild Berries warehouses have been subjected to repeated attacks by Ukrainian drones in recent months. The company recently announced that it will have new storage facilities in neighboring Kazakhstan.

Vorobyov said that an 83-year-old man was killed in a drone attack in another area of ​​the region on Sunday.

The Russian Ministry of Defense stated that drones were intercepted over 17 regions, most of them in southern and western Russia.

In Rostov, southern Russia, 5 people were killed, according to the region's governor.

On the other hand, Russia continues to target the Ukrainian capital, Kiev, with a mixture of missiles and drones.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that six people were injured in strikes that occurred early Sunday.

Zelensky added that the cities of Kremenchuk and Kryvyi Rih, in central Ukraine, were also subjected to ballistic missile attacks. He pointed out that two people were killed in Kryvyi Rih and another person in Sumy, in the north of the country.

The Ukrainian Air Force said in a statement that Ukraine was unable to shoot down any of the ballistic missiles fired at it overnight, in a new indication of the severe shortage of interceptor missiles it possesses.

According to Zelensky, during the past week, Russia launched more than 1,550 attack drones, about 1,560 guided aerial bombs, and 62 missiles at Ukraine.

He added: "European interceptor missiles cannot simply be allowed to remain in storage. Lives must be protected. Russia must be stopped."
