German judoka Kavelius spoke about the attack of his opponent Japaridze

German judoka Timo Kavelius shared details about his opponent Akakie Japaridze breaking his jaw at a team tournament in Germany. His words are quoted by Tagesspiegel.

Kavelius stated that he was initially shocked, noting that even after he was already lying on the mat, the attacker continued to strike him. He noted that it was only thanks to the immediate intervention of his teammates that the situation was resolved. The athlete added that it now remains to wait to see what conclusions the German Judo Federation, the European Judo Union and the International Judo Federation will make.

There is no official decision on punishment yet, but the Georgian judoka faces lifelong disqualification. Sanctions could also be applied to the club that the athlete represented, but team representatives have already stated that they no longer want to have anything to do with the Georgian.
