A resident of Primorye will appear in court for shooting an Amur tiger

A resident of Primorye will appear in court on charges of shooting an Amur tiger and attempting to sell it, the regional prosecutor's office reported.

According to investigators, from March to September 2025, a man and his accomplices discovered an Amur tiger, listed in the Red Book of Russia, in the forest.

“Implementing the intention to illegally kill the tiger, the defendants fired at least one shot from a Saiga MK rifled hunting carbine, causing injuries incompatible with life to the animal,” the report says.

The criminals separated the limbs and jaws from the tiger's body, and then the accused found a buyer and transported parts of the animal's carcass.

As follows from the department's report, the regional prosecutor's office filed a civil lawsuit against the accused in the amount of over 1 million rubles.

In addition, a criminal case has been initiated against the man under Part 3 of Article 258.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “Illegal extraction, storage, transportation and sale of especially valuable wild animals belonging to species listed in the Red Book of the Russian Federation.” The maximum penalty under this article is up to 8 years in prison.

The case was sent for consideration to the Nadezhdinsky District Court.

Criminal cases against two accomplices of the accused are being considered separately.
