Taiwan's long-term implementation of drug control and harm reduction policies has become the focus of political attack and defense, and at the same time undermined the years of hard work of frontline professional social workers and medical personnel. The Taipei City Social Workers Professional Union went to protest in front of the service office of Li Yanxiu, the spokesperson and legislator of Chiang Wanan's bid, today, but was blocked by horseback and police. The union angrily criticized "Li Yanxiu apologizes!" and said that Li Yanxiu's speech excluded and stigmatized vulnerable groups, damaged the anti-virus system and the social work profession, and also required the police to protect his service office.

The union pointed out that when professional workers came to Li Yanxiu's service office, they were very sad to see Juma and the Taipei City police surrounding the social workers, preventing them from entering and blocking the social workers from demanding an apology from Li. Why does Li Yanxiu hide behind Juma and the Taipei City Government Police Station, and dare not bravely face criticism?

The union stated that since the committee members did not dare to come out and apologize, the union posted the note requesting an apology in front of Juma to let them know how angry we are and how angry the public is. Li's rumors and false statements caused panic to the public and damaged the profession of social workers.

The union said that in fact, social workers play a very important role in promoting the policy concept of "harm reduction and drug prevention". Many disadvantaged friends are very afraid of being labeled and stigmatized, but Li's remarks have made them face stigma and social exclusion again. What social workers should do is to prevent them from being excluded from society and help them obtain formal resources, but Commissioner Li Yanxiu conveyed incorrect facts to the public.

In addition, the trade union pointed out that Li Yanxiu made false remarks and rumors in every corner of society, making it difficult for vulnerable groups to face society properly and being excluded from society. Li's remarks hurt the alternative systems and policies that have been deeply cultivated in the system for more than ten years and promoted harm reduction and prevention. A lot of effort has been put into establishing a drug prevention and harm reduction system with inter-professional partners such as doctors, nurses, police and clinical psychologists. However, its untrue remarks have caused society to distrust this system.

The labor union angrily criticized Li Yanxiu for making such remarks due to election considerations, causing panic and uneasiness among the public, and triggering strong social opposition. In addition, the Taipei City Government mobilized police forces to protect powerful legislators, allowing Li to hide behind and continue to spread rumors and cause trouble, using the hard-working police officers as shields and tools.
