The incident occurred during the Saudi Arabian championship match, which took place on September 12 and ended in a 6-0 victory for Al-Hilal. Some Al-Taawoun fans chanted the name of Jota, who was a close friend of Neves, as a result of which the midfielder got into an altercation with them. Later, Cristiano Ronaldo stated the need to punish fans and ban those who behave like this from entering stadiums.

Al-Hilal strongly condemns such actions, especially when they affect players or members of their families or are intended to cause personal insult.
