Singapore security agency: Iran-backed Iraqi militia commander has applied for entry multiple times

Singapore's security agencies revealed on the 10th that an Iraqi militia commander supported by Iran has applied to travel to Singapore many times. This commander has been accused of planning attacks on Jewish targets in Europe and the United States. Singapore's security agencies have not ruled out that he may also list Singapore as an attack target.

Agence France-Presse reported on the 10th that Singapore's Internal Security Department (ISD) released an annual terrorism threat assessment report on the 10th to disclose this matter. According to the report, the Iraqi militia commander Mohammad Baqer Saad Dawood Al-Saadi applied for a Singapore visa three times between 2023 and 2024, but in the end he did not make the trip. Singapore said if he had tried to enter Singapore, Singapore would have refused him.

The Internal Security Service pointed out that Shadi is believed to have traveled to other parts of Southeast Asia during that period. It cannot be ruled out that his visit to this region was for terrorist purposes. "He may have targeted Singapore, including American, Israeli and Jewish interests here." Singapore is working with intelligence partners to investigate Shadi's activities.

Citing this case as an example, the Internal Security Bureau said overseas conflicts "have heightened the threat of attacks in Singapore and Southeast Asia". The report states that the country and Southeast Asia "continue to feel the knock-on effects of geopolitical tensions and instability in the Middle East. The activities of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and its armed proxy forces have made the threat of terrorism not limited to conflict zones in the Middle East."

Shady is currently in U.S. custody awaiting trial. Indictment documents filed by U.S. prosecutors in May this year stated that Shadi was a senior figure in the Iraqi armed organization "Kataeb Hezbollah" (Kataeb Hezbollah); Washington determined that the organization was related to the Iranian Revolutionary Guards and classified it as a terrorist organization.

The New York Post reported in May that Shadi was trained by the Revolutionary Guards and attempted to assassinate Ivanka Trump, the daughter of President Trump and the richest daughter of the United States, in order to avenge the Iranian general Qasem Soleimani who was killed by the United States. The report stated that Shadi even had a floor plan of Ivanka's home in Florida.
