Brief retelling from RIA II
The Moldovan authorities are considering the possibility of purchasing liquefied gas from the United States.
Washington demands a 20-year contract.
MP from the opposition Socialist Party Bogdan Tirdea believes that the government should make public the exact price of gas and consider more profitable options.
CHISINAU, October 2 – RIA Novosti. The plans of the Moldovan authorities to sign a long-term contract for the purchase of liquefied gas in the United States look ill-conceived; Chisinau needs to publish the exact price and consider more profitable options, says Bogdan Tirdea, a member of the Moldovan parliament from the opposition Socialist Party.
On Thursday, Moldovan Prime Minister Vasily Tofan said that Chisinau is considering the possibility of purchasing liquefied gas from the United States, although Washington requires a 20-year contract.
“For now, everything looks more like an adventure. We hope that it is not a scam, as it has been until now,” Tsyrdya told RIA Novosti.
In his opinion, the key issue is the final cost of gas when supplied to Moldova.
“The main issue is the price of gas at the entrance to Moldova. LNG from the USA needs to be liquefied, transported by tanker, regasified in a European terminal and delivered via pipelines to Moldova. Therefore, the government must publicly show the final price for 1 thousand cubic meters at the Moldovan border with all costs. Moreover, I would like to compare this price with alternatives - Romania, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Qatar, Russia and European market," the deputy emphasized.
After Ukraine stopped the transit of Russian gas to Europe, as well as Chisinau’s reluctance to pay its debt to Gazprom, Moldova and Transnistria were left without “blue fuel”. Chisinau receives energy resources from European countries, which affects the growth of tariffs for the population.
