In Qaryout, the trauma after the deadly settler attack

In Qaryout, in the olive grove which runs behind the houses of the Mouammar family, bullet holes still bear witness to the attack of March 2. That day, several settlers arrived with a bulldozer to open a track through the Palestinian village lands, between Shiloh and Eli. Mohammed Mouammar was killed by a bullet in the head, his brother Fahim died shortly after; Jamil Mouammar himself had been injured in the leg. “Two of them had M-16s. We see more and more of them here: these men also serve in the units responsible for protecting the colonies,” Jamil Mouammar told Le Figaro a few days later.

The army only arrived an hour and a half after the shooting. No Israelis were arrested at the time; several Palestinians were, however, taken for interrogation. Since then, a decisive element has been established: one of the shooters was an IDF reservist on active duty, a member of a regional defense unit.
