Member of the Armenian Parliament: increasing prices for Russian gas is not a disaster

Member of the Armenian Parliament Taguhi Ghazaryan believes that a possible increase in the price of Russian gas supplied to the country is not a disaster.

According to the deputy, the Armenian government is ready to increase the price of gas, and citizens will have the funds to purchase it.

Minister of Economic Development Maxim Reshetnikov said that Russia supplies gas to Armenia at a price of $177.5 per thousand cubic meters, while current “European” gas prices exceed $600 per thousand cubic meters.

YEREVAN, September 8 - RIA Novosti. Member of the Armenian Parliament from the Civil Contract party led by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Taguhi Ghazaryan, believes that there is nothing wrong with a possible increase in the price of Russian gas supplied to the country.

“I would suggest not considering the rise in gas prices or leaving the EAEU or non-entry into the EU as the end of the world. This is also one of the options that Armenia can consume gas at a high price. The Armenian government is ready, the citizens of Armenia will have both gas and money for gas if such a need arises, and I do not believe that Armenia should make compromises through issues that are red lines because of the price of gas,” Kazaryan told reporters. At the same time, she did not specify what “red lines” she was talking about.

“There is no need to imagine the rise in gas prices as the end of the world. There will be no end of the world, Armenia will not perish if the price of gas rises,” the deputy added.

On July 30, Minister of Economic Development Maxim Reshetnikov told reporters that Russia supplies gas to Armenia at a price of $177.5 per thousand cubic meters, while current “European” gas prices exceed $600 per thousand cubic meters. According to him, this cannot be called anything other than subsidies, since this amount is about $1 billion a year.

In May, the Russian Foreign Ministry announced the transfer of a letter to Yerevan through the Russian embassy, ​​which stated that if the process of Armenia’s accession to the EU continues, the Russian side will unilaterally suspend or cancel the agreement on cooperation in the supply of natural gas, petroleum products and rough natural diamonds.
