Vice President Hsiao Meiqin attended the inaugural meeting of Democratic Progressive Party Taipei mayoral candidate Shen Boyang today. She said in her speech that in fact, in nature, ocean currents are a very large and most vital flow on the earth. In nature, ocean currents can regulate climate, drive circulation, and nurture life. They are also the connection between Taiwan and the world. Xiao Meiqin also introduced to everyone the Shen Boyang she knew before the "ocean current" was formed. She mentioned that when she was in the United States, she had many friends in Washington. Whether they were officials, think tanks, or members of Congress, everyone wanted to see Shen Boyang. He had not yet entered politics and was a scholar. Washington already knew that he was a deep and knowledgeable person who could understand Taiwan's social trends, international geopolitics, and defend Taiwan's dignity and role in the world.
Xiao Meiqin also worked hard in Hualien for 10 years. After she returned to Taiwan to serve as Vice President, she was unable to coordinate the Executive Yuan and deal with the needs and petitions of various Hualien folks as she had done in the past. Xiao Meiqin said that at this time, someone stood up and he was Shen Boyang! He is willing to take on what everyone considers the most difficult and complex political environment. He chooses to take over the important task of adopting Hualien and continuing to serve Hualien. I saw him spending time fighting for resources in the most remote tribes and schools. After the typhoon and flood in Guangfu Township, he rolled up his sleeves to help the villagers clean up their homes. These are all before he became a representative of public opinion. He was a brave Shen Boyang who was not afraid of difficulties, willing to face difficulties, willing to face challenges, and even warm without asking for anything in return.
Xiao Meiqin said that Shen Boyang has become the expectation of Taipei citizens and the people of Taiwan in the next stage. The problems Taipei faces today and the things that need to be solved have gone beyond the Taipei she knew at the time. There are some issues that have accumulated over a long period of time and that citizens need to be familiar with and face in their daily lives. They include transportation issues, commuting issues, living space and environment issues, housing issues, old home renewal issues, long-term care issues, and educational resource issues. These are all daily concerns of Taipei citizens. At the same time, there is the world that Taiwan's capital and world-class city must face, including challenges to residential security caused by extreme climate, geopolitical instability, changes in the industrial environment due to supply chain restructuring, care for the elders due to changes in global demographic structure, care for the next generation due to declining birthrates, and the connection between Taiwan and the world. These are all issues that the leaders of the next generation will face before our eyes.
Xiao Meiqin pointed out that drinking milk is good, but Taipei citizens’ requirements for their quality of life definitely go beyond drinking milk. These various problems cannot be solved by a single solution. They require composite solutions and cross-domain wisdom. Hot pot is also good, but hot pot is no longer enough to cover the vision and macro vision that Taipei, a city, needs to bear to face the future world.
Xiao Meiqin said that she saw in Shen Boyang that he has cross-domain expertise and knowledge. He does not need to memorize manuscripts because he himself is a "mobile knowledge base"!
