Sofiane Amrabat announces the suspension of his participation with the Moroccan national team

Moroccan midfielder Sofiane Amrabat announced the suspension of his participation with his country's national team under the leadership of current coach Mohamed Wehbe.

Amrabat wrote on the “Story” feature on the Instagram platform, on Tuesday: “Representing Morocco was the greatest honor in my career. Ever since I was called up 12 years ago, I did everything in my power for my country and wore the national team shirt with pride. My love for Morocco and everything this team represents to me will never change.”

He added: "This was a very difficult decision, but I do not feel that I am able to continue representing the national team under the leadership of the current coach. Therefore, I will not be available as long as he is still in charge."

He continued: "Out of respect for the national team and all the fans, I prefer to keep the reasons for this decision secret. I want to be clear. I am not retiring from football at the international level, and I will not close the door to representing Morocco again."

The 30-year-old Dutch Ajax player continued: “To my teammates, my brothers, and all the members of the technical staff, I wish you all the best. I will remain the team’s biggest fan, and I will support you with the same passion that you always showed on the field.”

Sofiane Amrabat has 78 international matches, including 11 in the World Cup, and provided 3 assists.

Mohamed Wehbe (50 years old) assumed his position last March, and led the “Atlas Lions” team, and led the latter to reach the quarter-finals in the 2026 World Cup.
