Sludge was illegally buried on Hsinchu farmland, and the county Environmental Protection Bureau will issue fines in accordance with the law

Farmland in Qingpu and Houhu, Xinfeng Township, Hsinchu County, was invaded by sewage sludge. After investigation by the county Environmental Protection Bureau, it was discovered that a woman surnamed Lin was suspected of buying organic fertilizer raw materials packaged in space from a food processing sludge recycler in Taichung, and commanding and dispatching the transportation to Qingpu. Upon application, the excavation and burial caused air pollution, and after the incident, another large truck that was driven away was randomly dumped in the Houhu area. The Environmental Protection Bureau will fine Lin Nv in accordance with the air pollution law and violation of the waste disposal law, and also requested the Taichung City Government to fine the food processing sludge reuse industry that is the source of organic fertilizers.

Liao Yingying, deputy director of the county environmental protection bureau, said that a preliminary investigation showed that sludge was piled on farmland in Qingpu Village without applying for permission, and odor was produced during the landfill operation, causing air pollution.

The bureau rushed to Qingpu Village after receiving the report last night and found that there were 31 bags of 1 cubic meter space bags on the farmland, filled with organic fertilizer raw materials from a food processing sludge recycling company in Taichung City. They asked Ms. Lin to immediately remove the stacked space packages in batches, and also remove the space packages that had been mixed into farmland in batches. They would continue to monitor them until the improvements were completed.

Liao Yingying said that Ms. Lin also admitted during the inspection that the abandoned space bag found in Houhu this morning was also theirs, and the bureau requested that it be removed and restored to its original state.

She said that the odor generated by the stacking and handling of the aforementioned organic fertilizers at the site in Qingpu Village has caused air pollution. In addition, Ms. Lin did not comply with the reuse permit requirements and violated Article 39 of the Waste Cleanup Act. Therefore, they will fine Ms. Lin in accordance with the law and write to the Taichung City Environmental Protection Bureau to investigate and deal with the food processing sludge reuse business involved.
