US President Trump suspends tariffs on Canada for three days

In his statement on his social media account, US President Donald Trump stated that he made the decision based on the agreement reached with Canada.

In his post, Trump said, "I have suspended the 50 percent tariffs on Canada, which are scheduled to take effect tomorrow morning, for a period of three days, subject to the finalization of documents, due to the fact that the United States and Canada have reached an agreement." he said.

Last month, the US administration announced that Canada would impose a 50 percent customs duty on some goods imported from this country, claiming that it had "discriminatory" practices against American products.

In the statement made by the White House, it was noted that Trump signed three separate presidential proclamations stipulating the imposition of additional customs duties on certain products of Canadian origin in accordance with Section 338 of the Tariff Act of 1930.

It was stated in the statement that each declaration brought an additional tax of 50 percent on different product groups imported from Canada, and that this scope included various products from wine to hockey sticks and cement.

In the statement, it was stated that the tariff in question would come into force on August 19.
