Republicans are expected to reach 50 seats in the Senate if they win at least 5 of the seats in the 8 states where the neck-and-neck race continues. If there is a 50-50 tie in the Senate, Vice President J.D. Vance's tie-breaking vote could give Republicans a majority.

According to the law, the US Vice President, who also serves as the President of the Senate, can cast the tiebreaking vote in favor of his party.

Democrats appear to have an advantage in the House of Representatives

In the House of Representatives, which will all be up for election, the party that reaches 218 seats will gain the majority.

The gap is narrowing in the race between Democrats and Republicans for 26 seats in the House of Representatives.
