New sanctions from the USA against Iran's aviation sector

In the statement made by the US Treasury Department, it was reported that the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) took action against the country's aviation sector within the scope of "Operation Economic Exclusion" against Iran.

36 COMPANIES ARE ON THE SANCTIONS LIST

In the statement, it was noted that OFAC included 36 companies in the sanctions list on the grounds that they support the aviation industry, which Iran uses to transport weapons, personnel and illegal cargo, and it was stated that today's step also targets front companies that Iran uses to procure US-origin aircraft and sensitive technologies.

In this context, 27 Iranian airline companies and 9 international aviation companies from different countries were included in the scope of sanctions.

THREE AVIATION PERMITS SUSPENDED

In the statement, it was stated that OFAC simultaneously suspended three aviation permits for the country in order to increase pressure on Iran, and these include permits that allow passage through its airspace and the flying of US-origin or US-controlled commercial aircraft to Iran by airline companies outside the country.

WARNING TO FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS

On the other hand, the statement stated that the Financial Crimes Prevention Network (FinCEN) issued a warning requesting financial institutions to report supply networks supporting Iran's aviation industry.

"SERIOUS CONSEQUENCES" MESSAGE FROM BESSENT

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, whose evaluations were included in the statement, emphasized that today's sanctions fulfill the promise of "severe consequences" for those who provide financial support to Iran.
