US Defense Secretary Hegseth says execution of Fort Hood attacker will be 'public'

In his interview with Real America's Voice, Hegseth stated that everyone could watch him being shot when asked about Nidal Hasan, who was convicted of killing 13 people at Fort Hood Base in Texas in 2009.

The Minister of Defense said: "We will make sure that people can watch this. It will be open to the public. Because people need to understand the serious consequences of such things." he said.

It was not fully clarified in Hegseth's statement whether Hasan's execution would be open to anyone, whether it would be broadcast on the internet or television, or whether it would be presented only to certain people.

News in the US media stated that there has not been a public execution in the country for 90 years and that Hegseth's statements raise questions about how the army will allow people to watch the execution.

The country's media reported that the last execution by firing squad in the US army took place in 1945, and that the executed person was a World War II soldier. He included the information that he was Eddie Slovik, a private who escaped from France during World War II.

The last public execution in the United States was in 1936, when Rainey Bethea, a black man convicted of raping a white woman, was hanged in Kentucky.

In the statement made by the US Department of Defense (Pentagon) on October 5, it was reported that US President Donald Trump approved the execution of Nidal Malik Hasan, the perpetrator of the Fort Hood attack, by firing squad by the army.

Hasan, a former army psychiatrist who is expected to be executed on December 3, carried out the attack at Fort Hood in Texas in November 2009, killing 13 people and injuring 32 people, and Hasan was sentenced to death by a military jury for the attack.
