Abodi responds to criticism of the FIGC's commissionership: the decision is up to CONI, not politics

Whether to appoint the Football Federation as commissioner will be decided by Coni, politics has nothing to do with it: Andrea Abodi thus responds, from Milan, to the voices 'against', from Ceferin and other European leaders who defend the FIGC's autonomy, to De Laurentiis who explicitly pointed the finger at the Minister for Sport and the Minister for the Economy, Giancarlo Giorgetti. "It is clear to everyone that mine is an affair that has little to do with sport...", the federal president, Giovanni Malagò, had reiterated in recent days, whose election will be under the scrutiny of the Council and Council, after the commitments of the national team, due to the lack of membership.

On the day in which Coni received the fourth and final opinion from jurists on the regulatory impact of non-membership, and on the other hand they are working on the counter-opinions of Malagò's experts, Abodi expressed himself on the context surrounding a decision which, on Coni's part, is not only legal: "Here there is neither a personal nor political issue. The attempt to put it on this level is an attempt at confusion, which a system that needs to restart does not need. Coni making a decision, putting it on a political level is a mortification towards Coni which I believe Coni does not deserve", the words of the minister, who awaits the discussion of the Council and Councils.

"It is necessary to tackle decisively, each with their own beliefs, a topic which is in any case subjected to the evaluation not of one person but of several people, this must also be a factor of guarantee: the Council will decide, the National Council will decide. There are no more guarantees than these. There are opinions and those who have the responsibility, like mine, of supervising not the federations but possibly the CONI, do not need to intervene and add anything else".

Abodi, after having agreed with Petrucci's amazement at the dissent of De Paola and Bianchedi, Buonfiglio's deputy, on the Federpesi commissionership ("normally these relationships like this don't last long in their role and function"), also 'armoured' Mancini. "He is not in question, the FIGC affair will not have repercussions on the national team." As per the civil code, the documents signed by Malagò are not null (if anything, voidable), but it is the 'good faith' of the president that weighs.

Meanwhile, today the Football Federation sent the first stadium dossier for Euro 2032: as anticipated by Ansa, there are 13 cities, with 14 facilities (for the capital, in addition to the Olimpico, the new Roma stadium in Pietralata; for Naples the Maradona). UEFA will indicate the shortlist, from which the FIGC will then have to choose the five facilities. "I am satisfied with the number and quality of the dossiers - the words of Malagò, who submitted all the Italian proposals to Ceferin - The work carried out so far confirms the shared desire to offer Euro 2032 cities and facilities worthy of a major international event".
