Aécio Neves says running for the Senate is a gesture of responsibility towards Minas

During a meeting with political leaders and supporters in Varginha, Aécio Neves stated that his candidacy for the Senate is a "gesture of great responsibility towards Minas" and highlighted the experience he accumulated as a former state governor and former senator.

When commenting on the financial situation of Minas Gerais, the candidate said that the renegotiation of the state debt is necessary and that the issue depends on political articulation in Brasília. According to him, the resources currently allocated to paying debt service could be reverted to areas such as health, public security and infrastructure.

"Only with political articulation will we ensure that what we pay for debt service returns to the miners to reduce health queues, to invest in public security, as I did when I was governor, to improve our roads. With political articulation, it is possible to take Minas out of this very serious difficulty", said the candidate.

Aécio also presented proposals that he intends to defend in the Senate if elected. Among them, a Proposed Amendment to the Constitution (PEC) aimed at increasing the Union's participation in health financing and the conclusion of the processing of the Public Security PEC.

Aécio also highlighted proposals related to public security. He defended the conclusion of the vote on the Public Security PEC in the Federal Senate and stated that some punishments should be more rigorous.

"We have to toughen some penalties. Toughen, for example, the penalties against feminicide, the penalties against those who aggress against women, who should not have any type of privilege, of sentence progression", he added.
