NEW DELHI: Leader of opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Sunday warned Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union home minister Amit Shah that they would face legal action over alleged vote theft, saying they would be next after Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar. Addressing the INDIA bloc's rally at Delhi's Ramlila Maidan, Rahul said the opposition would pursue action against those allegedly involved in manipulating elections. He also claimed that Gyanesh Kumar would be removed from his post and jailed. "Amit Shah ji said Narendra Modi is not going anywhere. I am telling you the opposite: Narendra Modi cannot go anywhere. Even if he wants to leave, we will not let him go. After Gyanesh Kumar, we are going to stand right in front of you. Legal action will be taken against them..." Rahul said. Accusing the BJP of stealing votes in several elections, Rahul alleged that manipulation had taken place in Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra and Karnataka, as well as during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
"For years, vote theft has been happening in this country. Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Karnataka and the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, in all these elections, vote theft has occurred. Votes have been stolen through EVMs and by deleting and adding names to voter lists," he said. Rahul further alleged that the alleged electoral manipulation had helped Modi become Prime Minister and Shah become home minister. He said removing Gyanesh Kumar was the first step towards restoring democracy and the Constitution. "We do not want a country that belongs only to two or three people," he said, adding that farmers, students and labourers were being denied their rightful opportunities and benefits. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge also accused the BJP of forming governments through stolen mandates and said removing Modi from power was necessary to save democracy.
