China's medical AI achievements "went overseas" to Africa with the foreign aid medical team for the first time

The reporter learned from the health services special innovation results release event held on the 10th that two medical AI results incubated by the National Artificial Intelligence Application Pilot Base (Medical)·Beijing ("Pilot Base") have been put into clinical application in Africa.

The AI ​​fundus camera of Beijing Tongren Hospital and the AI ​​pediatrician of Beijing Children's Hospital recently went to Africa with the 32nd Chinese medical team to aid Guinea and were put into clinical use at the China-Guinea Friendship Hospital. This is the first time that the results of the pilot base have been officially "went overseas" with the national foreign aid medical team, marking the platform's landmark step in the entire chain of "incubation verification - implementation at the grassroots level - serving the national strategy".

The two achievements of this "going overseas" have been verified by system incubation in the pilot base. The practical application allows expert experience to take root in the local area in the form of intelligent agents to continue to protect the health of African people. The AI ​​fundus camera condenses the ophthalmology resources of Beijing Tongren Hospital and can assess more than 10 fundus abnormalities and more than 10 chronic disease risks in one examination, with an accuracy of over 95% in identifying blinding eye diseases. This achievement has covered more than a thousand medical institutions in China and entered many countries and regions, serving more than 40 million people in total.

The AI ​​pediatrician integrates the clinical experience of more than 300 pediatric experts at Beijing Children's Hospital and is trained based on China's largest pediatric data set. It provides real-time assistance to grassroots doctors through the dual mode of "active consultation + expert companionship" and has been the first to be promoted and applied in Kyrgyzstan.

At the launch event, Zhang Mingzhu, captain of the 32nd batch of Chinese medical teams aiding Guinea, introduced via video link that the AI ​​fundus cameras and AI pediatricians have been put into use locally and localized adaptation has been completed, with good response from patients.
