Denmark's former queen Margrethe II has been in the hospital since this Sunday. The 86-year-old is being treated for a bruise in the hip area and mild dehydration, as the Ritzau news agency reported, citing the royal family. Margrethe is doing well given the circumstances and is in a good mood.

According to the information, the former queen will remain in hospital for treatment and observation in the coming week - and will therefore miss the funeral of Norwegian King Harald V in Oslo on Wednesday. Margrethe has to be treated in hospital for the third time this year.

In May she initially came to the Copenhagen University Hospital with so-called angina pectoris - chest pain caused by a circulatory disorder in the heart. Shortly after her discharge, she was treated for a major hemorrhage in her hip area. At the beginning of 2024, Margrethe surprisingly abdicated and left the throne to her son, King Frederik X, after 52 years as Danish head of state.
