Elles ne savaient pas nager et les conditions en mer étaient défavorables», a détaillé la magistrate chargée de l'enquête médico-légale, Penelope Schofield, devant un tribunal. «Je suis arrivée à la conclusion que les sœurs sont délibérément entrées dans l'eau avec l'intention de mettre fin à leurs jours», a-t-elle dit.

Penelope Schofield a souligné qu'elle ne connaissait pas les raisons de leur suicide. Christina souffrait «d'anxiété et de dépression » depuis la mort de sa mère. La police a retrouvé de nombreuses références au suicide en cherchant dans l'historique de son ordinateur.
