Satellite images show the destruction of US military buildings at the Kuwait base

Commercial satellite images show two buildings for US soldiers at the Kuwait base destroyed, after Iran announced an attack on this location.

Soar, a digital mapping platform based in Australia, today posted high-resolution satellite images taken of Ali Al Salem air base in Kuwait on August 25 and September 3, showing two structures that appear to be Container Housing Units (CHUs) for US garrisons that were collapsed.

"By comparing photos from August 25 to September 3, it can be seen that two buildings in the barracks have been completely destroyed, debris from one of the two units is being cleaned up," Soar said. A large structure nearby also showed signs of damage, apparently due to raids before August 25.

Central Command (CENTCOM), the agency responsible for US military operations in the Middle East, and Kuwaiti officials have not commented on the photo.

Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced on the morning of September 2 to conduct a coordinated attack with missiles and drones (UAV) on Ali Al Salem military airport, in response to the previous US attack campaign.

The IRGC said the target was the "command headquarters and residence of the US commander" at the base, adding that the raid killed several soldiers, caused a fire in the hangar and the UAV deployment area, as well as destroyed a number of reconnaissance aircraft stationed at the base.

OSINTdefender, a social network account specializing in tracking open source data about war, said CHU is used as housing for US soldiers at many bases stationed abroad, including most facilities in the Middle East.

"They have almost no ability to withstand suicide UAVs, let alone ballistic missiles," this account said.

Unsecured housing is said to be one of the reasons why three US soldiers died in Iran's raid on the Muwaffaq Salti base in Jordan in July.

Fighting between Washington and Tehran flared up again after the US late last month attacked rocket launchers on Iran's Larak Island, on the grounds of discovering enemy soldiers preparing to launch rockets carrying mines into the Strait of Hormuz.

CENTCOM announced on September 5 that Iran had unsuccessfully attacked two US warships, including an aircraft carrier and a destroyer, and responded by attacking three oil tankers believed to be linked to the IRGC.

Tehran also quickly retaliated, claiming to have targeted three oil tankers traveling on "illegal routes" in the Strait of Hormuz, as well as three ships linked to the US in other areas.

On September 6, IRGC announced that it had attacked an American unmanned boat when it tried to enter the Strait of Hormuz, but CENTCOM called this information "a complete lie".
