In the next three days, a stream of cold air will affect most areas in the north, bringing about the first large-scale cooling after the beginning of autumn. Inner Mongolia, Gansu, Shaanxi, Shanxi, Henan and other places will usher in seasonal cooling. Yu Qun, a meteorological analyst at China Weather Network, said that this cold air is an "all-rounder". It not only has a wide range of influence and strong cooling power, but will also bring heavy rainfall and strong convective weather to many places in the north.
At present, this cold air front has reached the central and eastern parts of Northwest China and northern North China. Judging from the cooling process, today, the temperature in most places in Inner Mongolia, central Heilongjiang, central and western Jilin, western Liaoning, northern Hebei, and northern Shaanxi has dropped by more than 10°C. The temperature in southeastern Inner Mongolia has dropped by more than 15°C, from over 30°C to below 15°C. The difference between cold and warm is significant.
Tomorrow, the cold air will further move eastward and press southward, and the cooling areas will be concentrated in the central and eastern parts of the Northwest, central and southern North China, Huanghuai, and central and eastern Northeastern regions. Among them, the temperature in southern Hebei, central and southern Shanxi, northern Henan, eastern Heilongjiang, eastern Jilin, and eastern Liaoning will drop by 8 to 16°C. The cold air will affect the area south of the Yellow River the day after tomorrow. Among them, southern Shaanxi, northwestern Hubei, and central and western Henan will become the core areas of cooling, and the temperature drop will be around 8 to 14°C.
After the temperature drops, the maximum temperature line of 20°C will press southward to central Shaanxi, central Shanxi, northern Hebei, and eastern Inner Mongolia. In the next three days, the highest temperatures in 13 major cities including Harbin, Changchun, Shenyang, Hohhot, Taiyuan, Beijing, Tianjin, Xi'an, Lanzhou, Yinchuan, Xining, Jinan, and Zhengzhou will hit new lows after the beginning of autumn. Among them, the highest temperatures in Taiyuan, Lanzhou, Yinchuan, Xining, and Zhengzhou will drop below 20°C, which is 8 to 10°C lower than the same period in normal years.
In many places in the north, not only will the maximum temperature be significantly lower than the same period of the year, but the autumn coolness will be more prominent in the morning and evening periods, and the minimum temperature will also hit record lows in a wide range of areas. From the 8th to the 11th, the lowest temperature in many places in Northeast China will be less than 10℃, and the southern part of North China will only be around 15℃, making it feel chilly. The lowest temperatures in Harbin, Changchun, Shenyang, Xining, Hohhot, Taiyuan and other places will drop to single digits, setting new records for the lowest temperatures since the beginning of autumn this year. Among them, the lowest temperature in Harbin was only 7℃ on the 8th, and it will gradually drop to 9℃ in Changchun and Shenyang from the 9th to the 10th. Autumn clothes such as jackets and trousers will come in handy.
As the weather turns cooler, autumn has entered many places in the north, including Lanzhou, Yinchuan, Harbin, Changchun, Taiyuan, Xining and other places. Yu Qun said that this wave of cooling will push the autumn process in the north to continue to move south. The autumn process may begin in many places in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region and the southern part of Northeast China. Beijing and Shijiazhuang may experience the transition from summer to autumn tomorrow.
In addition to cooling, from September 7th to 9th, there will also be significant rainfall in the eastern part of Northwest China and western North China. There will generally be light to moderate rains, locally heavy to heavy rains, and some areas will be accompanied by convective weather such as thunder and lightning or short-term heavy precipitation.
Heavy rainfall and strong convective weather are more common in midsummer. Why are they still so strong at the turn of summer and autumn? Yu Qun said that the subtropical high pressure is currently stable and less active, and still controls the central and eastern regions of my country. At its edge, water vapor is continuously transported northward. At the same time, cold air moves eastward and southward. The intersection of cold and warm air triggers widespread rainfall. In some areas, strong convective weather such as thunderstorms, strong winds or hail may also occur.
