Apple Adds Professional Tools to iPhone Camera App with iOS 27

Apple is preparing to add professional shooting tools and new manual control options to the iPhone camera application with the iOS 27 update.

Apple is preparing to offer more advanced photography tools to iPhone users with the upcoming iOS 27 update. New features revealed in beta codes aim to bring the professional shooting experience directly to the Camera application.

According to the information shared on the MacRumors forums, these innovations will be available next autumn. While some of these features come with launch, some will be included in the system with future updates.

New Camera Tools Coming with iOS 27

One of the most striking features of the new update will be the exposure scopes that allow you to manage exposure values more precisely. This feature includes waveform and histogram displays that help users better evaluate light balance when shooting in different formats.

The histogram display will clearly show users what percentage of pixels in the image are over- or under-exposed. The waveform will present similar information, aligning this data directly with relevant areas in the frame.

Another important innovation will be the focus peaking feature that provides focusing assistance. This tool will make it easier for the user to follow the focus by highlighting the edges of the objects that are currently in focus with a colored line.

Additionally, a secondary warning layer will be added to the system to notify you that an area in the image is overexposed. In this way, users will be able to instantly notice technical errors during shooting.

Another innovation added to the Camera application is the timer option. Users can now set the timer to take multiple shots in a row without waiting for the photo to be saved.

Manual focus controls will also be significantly strengthened with iOS 27. This feature will offer a structure similar to the controls in Apple's existing Final Cut Camera application.

There was a focus slider in the previous iOS 26 version, but this feature was removed in the iOS 27 beta version. It is stated that the new manual focus tools will be limited to devices that come out of the box with iOS 27 and will not work on existing iPhone models.

Hardware and Software Integration

Apple also plans to change photo processing processes in future iPhone models. Aperture-based image correction features are expected to come with the iPhone 18 Pro, which is expected to have variable aperture.

Currently, none of these features are accessible to users using the current beta version. It remains unclear whether Apple will release all of these innovations with the first version in September.
