Apple unveils foldable iPhone Duo priced at $1,999

The foldable iPhone Duo is about the size of a passport when folded and is available in two colors. It goes on sale on October 23rd and will cost an impressive $1,999 - a good 1,700 euros. This makes it the most expensive iPhone ever offered.

Apple hopes to conquer new target groups with the high-priced device and increase its profit margins in view of the increased prices for memory chips. So far, the market for flip cell phones has been a niche with a share of around two percent.

Soon to be the market leader in the folding cell phone segment?

Apple has put more than four years of development into the iPhone Duo and is now much later than the competition, such as Samsung. Just a few days ago, the Chinese providers Xiaomi and Huawei introduced new folding phones that cost between $1,500 and $3,000. However, market research firm IDC has predicted that despite the late start, Apple could take the lead in the foldable phone market segment within a year.

New AirPods Series 5 and the new iPhones 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max with an improved camera and newly developed chip were also presented. The new Apple Watches of the 12 series and Ultra 4 are also advertised as having greater battery and chip performance. Apple primarily focuses on tracking health values.

Regular iPhone 18 won't arrive until spring

What is new is that the regular iPhone 18 model will not be launched on the market together with the iPhone Pro models as before, but will only come in spring 2027.

The product presentation at the company's headquarters in Cupertino, California, was the premiere for the new Apple boss John Ternus, who only took over as CEO from Tim Cook at the beginning of the month.

Cook has again moved to the position of chairman of the supervisory board - and only appeared briefly at the beginning of the product presentation to hand over to Ternus. After all, the new products were developed under Cook's leadership.
