They made it look like the vehicles had collided! 'Insurance profiteering' operation in Batman: Many detentions

Within the scope of the investigation carried out by the Anti-Smuggling and Organized Crime (KOM) Branch Directorate, under the coordination of the Batman Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, an operation was organized against the suspects who were considered to have made unfair profits from insurance companies through fake traffic accidents.

The investigation found that some of the 41 traffic accidents that occurred in Batman between 2022 and 2024 may have been fictionalized. It was determined that the accidents occurred in places where there was no camera footage, there were account movements regarding insurance payments among the people involved in the accident, and suspicious vehicle transfers were made.

In the investigations, it was evaluated that some repair shop owners, insurance experts and people who had their vehicles used in allegedly faked accidents acted in an organized manner. It was determined that in the fictional accident images that emerged, detailed work was done to make the photographs believable.

Within the scope of the investigation, Financial Crimes Investigation Board (MASAK) account movements, HTS analyzes and suspicious accident reports obtained from the Insurance Information and Surveillance Center were examined.

As a result of the studies carried out, proceedings were initiated against 65 suspects who were considered to be linked to 41 incidents. The operation was carried out at around 06:00 on October 27, 2026 to capture the suspects.

While it was determined that one of the suspects for whom a detention warrant was issued was abroad, 43 suspects were caught and detained. It was stated that the detention process for 48 suspects was completed within the scope of the investigation, while investigations continued for 17 suspects.

Minister of Justice Akın Gürlek, who made the first announcement about illegal criminal organizations that gain unfair profits from insurance companies last week, said, "We continue our work with determination to reveal all the connections of criminal structures that try to obtain illegal financial benefits through fraudulent methods."

Minister Gürlek, who announced that the 76 traffic accidents examined in the Adana leg of the operations were found to be fictional, stated in his statement on his social media account on October 20 that it was determined that the suspects showed the damaged vehicles as if they were involved in a new accident, used the same vehicles again with different drivers, and prepared false accident reports.

Minister Gürlek said, "Under the leadership of our President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, we will continue our uncompromising fight to prevent fraudulent activities targeting commercial life, to reveal the proceeds of crime and to expose criminal structures with all their connections. No matter what method they use, those who profit from crime will be held accountable before the law."
