Charges are brought for shooting death in Södertälje

A 29-year-old man and a 34-year-old woman are charged with murder after a shooting at a car in Fornhöjden in Södertälje on 24 October last year. The two are simultaneously charged with attempted murder and aggravated weapons offences. Prosecutor Robert Damberg states that part of the evidence consists of digital material, including communication in encrypted chats and images from surveillance cameras.

- My opinion is that the chat material shows that the woman and the man who are now being charged together took on the murder mission and carried it out. The police's analyzes of, among other things, chats, material from surveillance cameras and secret means of coercion give, in my opinion, a good picture of the course of events, he says in a press release.

The alarm about the shooting came at 9:23 p.m. on the October evening in question. Witnesses stated that they had heard loud bangs and when the police arrived at the car that had been shot at, they could determine that two people had been shot. Later in the night, word came that one of the people in the car – an 18-year-old young man – had died from his injuries. A 20-year-old who was injured at the same time was taken to hospital, where it was determined that the injuries were not life-threatening. A third person who was in the car was completely uninjured.

A few hours after the shooting, the police announced that several people had been arrested - and a woman and a man were arrested on suspicion of murder. The two were later taken into custody and it emerged that just a few months earlier the woman had been sentenced to three years in prison for a serious drug offense and was on the loose waiting to begin serving her sentence when the shooting took place.

Another person is detained in absentia on suspicion of having instigated the crimes. However, the police have not managed to find that person and he is not covered by the current indictment.
