[Reporter Wu Junfeng/Tainan Report] The Chimei Museum once again brings medieval swordsmanship to modern times, inviting international Western martial arts master Devon. Devon Boorman gave lectures in person, from guiding the collections in the Armory Hall to leading students to experience the offensive and defensive charm of Western swords and long swords, allowing the medieval swordsmanship to be brilliantly presented.
According to the museum, the one-day limited experience "Western Martial Arts Master Workshop - Devon Birman" will return in 2026 and will be launched with two major themes: "Italian Long Sword" and "Italian Western Sword". It will introduce practical combat skills of European weapons and Western martial arts in classical literature from the 15th to 17th centuries from the simplest to the most advanced. The museum mentioned that Chi Mei has the richest collection of ancient weapons in Taiwan, which come from all continents around the world and are on public display. The weapons exploration event "Meet the Western Martial Arts Masters" held for the first time last year was very popular. Activity lecturer Berman is the co-founder and chief martial arts coach of Academy Duello, the world's largest historical European martial arts club. He is proficient in Italian martial arts, including long sword, Western sword, body sword and other fields. He is one of the most influential promoters of Western martial arts in the world.
The two major themed courses are the morning session "Italian Longsword: The Art of Medieval Knights' Competition". Berman draws from the literature of Italian swordsman masters from the 15th to the early 16th century and guides students to learn the basic skills of Italian longsword martial arts, from basic stances, footwork, offensive and defensive skills, to close combat techniques such as sword grabbing, wrestling and sword hilt strikes, taking everyone back to the Middle Ages.
In the afternoon session "Italian Sword: The Art of Dueling in the 17th Century", students can learn the basic stance, footwork, attack, defense and tactical principles of the Sword, and gain an in-depth understanding of this dueling weapon, which is known as the most representative in history. At the same time, students will also understand the etiquette and norms of dueling at that time.
The museum emphasized that this year it will once again combine international masters, collection tours and practical operations, and looks forward to accompanying the public on a "Western Martial Arts Cultural Experience Journey" spanning the Middle Ages to modern times.
