工程預計栽植約200株桂花樹,規格為樹徑約10公分以上、高度2公尺以上,範圍包括公有停12停車場、苗栗火車站至貓貍山公園間的鐵道綠廊、同心公園、苗栗縣政府稅務局前人行道、中苗社區活動中心前綠地、磚墩下公園、火旁人市集、忠貞路及公園路等處,採分區施作,預計於12月底完成。
市公所表示,各植栽區域既有樹木,將以原地保留為優先,並委請專業人員依樹木健康、生長空間及現地環境進行評估;如確有移植或移除必要,將審慎辦理。其中適合移植的樹木,將評估移至西山垃圾掩埋場、苗栗生命紀念館或貓裏喵親子公園等適當地點,兼顧景觀改善與樹木資源延續。
除桂花外,工程也將搭配藍花楹、吉野櫻、紅芽石楠、厚葉石斑木、七里香及雪茄花等適合在地環境的植栽,運用不同花期、葉色與層次配置,豐富四季景觀,提升街區綠意與整體辨識度。
