The Russian military again attacked Kyiv and the Kyiv region with ballistic missiles and jet drones on Tuesday night. As a result of the attack in the capital of Ukraine, three people were killed, about 20 were injured, and three more people were injured as a result of the strike in Odessa. This massive strike was the first after a three-day break, which Moscow announced last week in connection with the visit of special envoys from the United States.
The Russian military began attacking Kyiv on the evening of Monday, September 7. The alarm due to approaching drones was announced in the city and region at 17:39 local time (the same as Moscow).
Soon, the military administration of the Kyiv region reported that as a result of the attack in the Brovary region, a private house and a car were damaged, and in the Boryspil region, a warehouse and an enterprise were damaged.
Russian President Vladimir Putin previously gave instructions for three days, starting at midnight on Saturday, September 5, not to launch strikes on Kyiv in connection with the visit of US Presidential special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.
Before this pause, Russia almost continuously attacked Kyiv and the Kyiv region with missiles and drones for nine days.
On Tuesday night, the Russian military again attacked Kyiv and the region with ballistic missiles and jet-powered drones, authorities and military officials said.
According to the State Emergency Service, destruction and fires occurred in at least five districts of Kyiv. In the Goloseevsky district, a 26-story non-residential building was hit, in the Solomensky district, people were trapped in a five-story residential building, in the Darnitsky district, a garage was on fire in the territory of a private house, in the Podolsky district, a fire broke out in a warehouse building, and in the Dniprovsky district, a fire broke out in garages, rescuers listed.
The overnight attack killed three people and injured 16 others, authorities said.
The head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, Ivan Vygovsky, said that in total more than 50 objects were damaged in Kyiv, including residential buildings, a dormitory, a school site, shops, a gas station and a flour production plant.
“Currently, more than 300 rescuers and police officers continue to work in the capital. They are extinguishing the fire and clearing away the rubble at 7 locations... This is happening to the sounds of another air raid,” Vyhovsky said.
In the Kyiv region, private houses, businesses, warehouses and cars were damaged in several areas, said the head of the regional military administration, Timur Tkachenko. In the city of Belaya Tserkov, one person was wounded, according to authorities.
In addition, Odessa was attacked, where on Tuesday morning Russian drones struck a large wholesale and retail manufactured goods market. Three people at the market were injured, said the head of the Odessa regional military administration, Oleg Kiper.
On Tuesday afternoon, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky also announced that a Russian drone struck the building of the We Are Ukraine TV channel while journalists were on air. According to the Ukrainian president, at least five people were injured as a result.
“‘Shaheds’ against the media is a new page in Russian degradation, and there should definitely be a reaction from Europe and the world to this,” Zelensky said.
The Russian Ministry of Defense said that the targets of strikes in Kyiv, Kyiv and Odessa regions on Tuesday night were military-industrial complex enterprises.
In particular, in Kyiv and the region, as the Russian military said, a plant producing components for drones, an enterprise where components for Hornet drones are produced and stored, as well as a warehouse where Shark reconnaissance drones and medium-range attack drones were allegedly being assembled were hit.
Ukrainian drones, according to Russian authorities, attacked Saratov on Tuesday morning. The governor of the Saratov region, Roman Busargin, said that several residential buildings were damaged and 10 people were injured.
On September 6, the American negotiating delegation, special envoys of US President Donald Trump, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, visited Kyiv. As Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky noted, their visit protected Kyiv from Russian attacks “better than Patriot.”
This trip to Kyiv was the first for Kushner and Witkoff, and the day before they visited Moscow, where they met with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
At a press conference after the meeting with Zelensky, the Americans said that they had brought to Kyiv some “new ideas” about possible ways to end the war, but did not disclose their content.
Witkoff also said that visits to Moscow and Kyiv made it possible to achieve some success in resolving the conflict, but did not provide details.
Vladimir Putin’s assistant Yuri Ushakov, in turn, following the meeting in Moscow, said that at it “a whole series of considerations were formulated regarding possible ways of settlement.” He did not specify what exactly they were.
Zelensky revealed some details of Sunday’s negotiations with Trump’s special representatives in an interview with Axios. According to him, the main goal of Witkoff and Kushner's visits to Moscow and Kyiv was to “unblock the diplomatic process” and try to prevent the escalation of the war in the coming winter.
Zelensky said that American negotiators will now inform President Trump about the results of their trip and then continue consultations with Ukraine and Europe.
