Minas Gerais band Uberaba opens show at Rock in Rio with criticism of racism and defense of the Global South

The Minas Gerais trio from Uberaba formed in 2014 by brothers Charles Gama (voice and guitar) and Chaene Gama (bass) and drummer Rodrigo Pancho opened the show with “Hórus” (2026). The lyrics speak of religious syncretism. The introduction says: “In the name of the father, the son and the black saint”.

The band was rocking “Continental”, an album released on August 21, which mixes heavy rock with rap, soul and Afro-Brazilian references. The album also reinforces a fierce and forceful speech in defense of South America and the Global South. It was the band's third time at Rock in Rio.

In the repertoire, the group also mixed tracks such as “Tradução”, whose lyrics describe the routine of a mother who does not have time to spend with her son because she works outside the home. From the stage, the vocalist blew a kiss to his own mother who was in the audience: “I don't know where you are, mom, but this is at the end of the 6x1 scale, guys”.

Founded in São Paulo in 2010, the band arrives at Rock in Rio for the second time (the first was in 2019), now with the tour for “Slave Machine”, sixth album, released recently, last April.

A little further back, standing back, it was possible to see some men dressed in Black Pantera t-shirts giving way and giving encouragement. Some of them had the phrase “fire on the racists” emblazoned on the back of their shirts. They were black.
