Luciano Darderi beats Dane Sweeny in three sets and enters the round of 16 of the US Open

Luciano Darderi beats Dane Sweeny in three sets in the third round of the US Open and is the only Italian to enter the second week of the US tournament.

The Italian, number 22 in the world, beat the Australian (number 123) with a score of 6-4 6-3 6-3 and will face the winner of the match between the number one seed Alexander Zverev and the Chilean Alejandro Tabilo in the round of 16 (his best career result in a Slam).

"It was a good match, I knew I was the favorite and I had to win but doing it with these premises is never easy mentally. Beating him (Sweeny, ed.) in 3 sets makes me happy. My father has done the biggest job in my team for many years, I'm happy with the path we are on together. In the next match I will play with Zverev or Tabilo, they are both very strong, let's see", says Darderi at the end of the match.
