Us Open 2026: Cobolli eliminated, Darderi advances to the round of 16

The 2026 US Open continues in New York, the last Slam of the tennis season. On the hard court of Flushing Meadows, the third round of the men's singles draws to a close today, September 5th. Two Italians on the field: Flavio Cobolli lost against the Belgian Alexander Blockx, Luciano Darderi won against the Australian Dane Sweeny to gain access to the round of 16. The doubles tournament also continues: in the men's, first round for Darderi paired with the Argentine Mariano Kestelboim; in the women's category, second round for Sara Errani together with Lilli Tagger. The Italians' matches today 5 September

On the Louis Armstrong Stadium, Flavio Cobolli lost to Alexander Blockx. The Belgian, number 34 in the world, beats the Italian, seeded number 5, with a score of 6-7, 6-3, 6-0, 6-3, in a match in which between the second and fourth sets he wins 11 consecutive games. The only other Italian still on the scoreboard remains Luciano Darderi who wins a place in the round of 16: on Court 5 he beats the Australian Dane Sweeny 6-4, 6-3, 6-3. Later we continue with the double. On Court 11, second round for the couple formed by the Italian Sara Errani and the Austrian Lilli Tagger: they play against the Canadian Gabriela Dabrowski and the Brazilian Luisa Stefani. Finally, the first round of the men's doubles for Luciano Darderi paired with the Argentine Mariano Kestelboim: again on Court 11, they challenge the British couple Julian Cash and Lloyd Glasspool.
