Barcolana58: flag raising at the SVBG opens the regatta with over 1,300 boats registered

As per tradition, the flag-raising ceremony at the Società Velica di Barcola and Grignano opened the Barcolana58 presented by Generali: the three anthems of Italy, Gioia and Trieste were performed to the tune of Vecia Trieste. Barcolana 58 is divided into over 500 events throughout the Friuli Venezia Giulia region. And as tradition, the number of boats that will participate in the regatta on October 11th continues to rise: 1,300 have already registered.

It was the little athletes of the Optimist class - 318 of them - who opened the events at sea for 2026. They did so with a regatta of the Optimist Italia Kinder Joy of Moving Trophy circuit, of which it is the fourth stage (the circuit ends in Malcesine sul Garda from 23 to 25 October). A race characterized by bora around 15-20 knots and more intense gusts; then the strengthening of the wind led the Race Committee to order the return to land. Meanwhile, the Barcolana FUN continues, a free and borderless online national ranking that connects kiters, wingers and windsurfers from Italy and Slovenia, with five disciplines competing. The challenge will close on October 5th.

With Aquileia Barcolana58 presented by Generali also launched events in regional locations: the main event "Aquileia Porta del Mediterraneo", the walk organized by Fondazione Aquileia, Barcolana's Golden Partner, with the media partnership of Cammini d'Italia, was sold out.

In Trieste, in the afternoon, the second Barcolana Skate Up kicked off: skate, bike and skating in the city.

This ceremony at the SVBG, said the president of the Sailing Society of Barcola and Grignano, Mitja Gialuz, "marks the beginning of ten days" which begin with Barcolana SUP, Barcolana Young and Barcolana Nuota powered by Honda, while registrations for the Autumn Cup continue to grow".
