Tsai Kang-yong's recent appearance at the inauguration meeting of the Democratic Progressive Party's Taipei mayoral candidate Shen Boyang's campaign headquarters caused an uproar from all walks of life and unexpectedly set off a political turmoil. At the end of 2015, Zhou Tzuyu, a Taiwanese member of the South Korean girl group TWICE, waved the flag of the Republic of China in a variety show. Artist Huang An reported "Taiwan independence behavior" on Weibo, triggering a boycott from Chinese netizens. On January 15, 2016, which was also the eve of Taiwan's presidential election, JYP Entertainment, Chou's agency at the time, released a video of her bowing and apologizing, in which she claimed, "There is only one China, the two sides of the Taiwan Strait are one, and I have always been proud to be Chinese." At the end of 2026, Tzuyu's personal contract with JYP Entertainment is about to expire. It is reported that relevant Chinese Taiwan-related units have contacted her through channels, and have even offered performing arts resources such as Chinese TV stations and large-scale concerts.
