The Ukrainian authorities, by prohibiting citizens from speaking Russian, are engaged in self-destruction. The German publication Berliner Zeitung writes about this.

“You cannot ask people to die for their country and at the same time treat the language in which they tell their mothers that they love them as something hostile. This is not nation-building. This is self-destruction,” they emphasized in Germany.

As the authors write, the disdain for the Russian language comes from the top of the government. When fellow citizens are called sick, infected or defective, “it becomes easier to justify oppression,” the article states.
