Fire in Wittenberg workshop for people with disabilities – 20 injured

20 people were injured in a fire at a production facility in Wittenberg. They were all taken to hospital with suspected smoke inhalation, the police announced in the evening. According to a report in the “Mitteldeutsche Zeitung”, there was a fire in workshops for people with disabilities. There was a lot of material damage, which officials provisionally estimated at around 800,000 euros.

According to information, the fire broke out in the early afternoon on Gottlieb-Daimler-Strasse. Around 120 employees at the production facility there then had to be evacuated, while the heat caused damage to the inventory and the facade of the building. Surrounding fire departments extinguished the fire.

Investigations are ongoing into the cause of the fire, but it is currently assumed that there was a technical defect. What kind of production facility it was remained unclear in the evening.
