Brazil wins bronze at the Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championship and places in Los Angeles 2028

The Brazilian rhythmic gymnastics team is qualified for the Olympic Games in Los Angeles, in the United States, in 2028. This Saturday (15), the team won the bronze medal in the overall team at the World Championships in the sport, in Frankfurt, Germany.

The formation is made up of Maria Eduarda Arakaki from Alagoas, Nicole Pírcio from São Paulo, Sofia Madeira from Espírito Santo, Julia Kurunczi and Mariana Gonçalves from Paraná and Maria Paula Caminha from Amazonas.

Spain won the title. Japan, world champion held in Brazil in 2025, took silver. The Brazilians left behind strong opponents, such as China, current Olympic champion, and Bulgaria, winner of the Tokyo Games in 2021.

In the overall competition, the teams perform two series. In mixed, gymnasts perform with three hoops and two clubs. In the five-ball presentation, each gymnast uses one of the devices. The final score is the sum of the scores for the two routines, which take into account aspects such as difficulty, execution and artistic composition.

In the mixed series, Brazil had the second best score of the day, with 28,700 points, to the sound of Abracadabra, by Lady Gaga. In the presentation with five balls, which had Feeling Good, by Michael Bublé, as the soundtrack, the group obtained 26,800 points, the eighth best score of the competition. The total was 55,500 points.

The countries were divided into three groups of 14 sets. Brazil competed in the second group and provisionally finished in second place, behind only Spain, which had the best score in both series.

Confirmation of the medal and Olympic place depended on the results of the third group, which brought together opponents such as Japan, Bulgaria and Russia. Only the Japanese women surpassed the Brazilian score, guaranteeing Brazil bronze and qualification for the Los Angeles Games.

This was the second consecutive edition of the World Cup with Brazil on the podium. Last year, when the competition was held in Rio de Janeiro, the same sextet won two silver medals, in the overall group and in the mixed series.

The World Cup ends this Sunday (16). The Brazilian team will have both apparatus finals. The five-ball competition starts at 6am, while the mixed series is scheduled for 9am, both Brasília time.

"We simulated that day several times. Regardless of how we did in the first series, we would have to enter the second series and do very well too. It's very tense for the gymnasts because, after all, they have less than an hour to perform again. Controlling emotions is not easy", said the Brazilian team's coach, Camila Ferezin, to the Brazilian Gymnastics Confederation (CBG).

"Our five-ball and mixed sets have presentations with very high difficulties. So, I believe that tomorrow [Sunday], they can do even better", projected the coach.
