Baqaei wrote in a post on the “X” social networking site on Sunday, “The Strait of Hormuz was wide open until February 28, when the United States attacked Iran.”

He continued: "Washington launched an illegal and brutal war on the region and caused the disruption of the normal movement of commercial navigation, as oil tankers stopped, trade was disrupted, and energy prices continue to rise."

He added: "The United States is now trying to impose the bill of obstruction that it caused itself on the world, and put Iran's name on it."

He pointed out that "the United States was the one that started the war, but it expects the whole world to pay the price for it, while Washington portrays Iran as the one causing this chaos."

This comes after statements by Secretary of the Iranian Supreme National Security Council, Mohsen Rezaei, that the Strait of Hormuz is completely closed to commercial ship traffic.
