Chiayi City's representative landmark, the central fountain ring, has a century-old history. Due to structural aging and other problems, the Chiayi City Government spent NT$36 million to initiate a renovation project last year. The renovation was recently completed and re-opened. In the center of the ring, "an eagle spreading its wings - KANO" The 1931 "Wu Mingjie Pitcher Statue" was restored by the original author Pu Haoming, retaining the proportions and delicate charm of the original statue, allowing the urban spirit of the "Holy Land of Democracy", which was an important pre-election night to build momentum, to continue bat by bat.

Chiayi Mayor Huang Minhui said in her speech that the central fountain ring is not only a public building for Chiayi citizens, but also a symbol of democracy. On every pre-election night, supporters of different positions build momentum here and respect each other, demonstrating the tolerance and tenacity of Chiayi City’s democratic shrine, carrying the emotions and democratic beliefs of Chiayi City people, and witnessing the lives and urban changes of each generation of citizens.

Huang Minhui said that the central fountain ring has accompanied the citizens of Chiayi for 120 years since the plaza was established after the 1906 earthquake and the fountain was installed in 1914. For this renovation, Pu Haoming, the author of the Wu Mingjie pitcher statue in the central fountain, was invited to re-make it with copper. In addition to improving the facilities, it also preserved precious historical memories and craftsmanship. She hopes that the central fountain ring will continue to accompany Chiayi City.

Pu Haoming said that the mayor and the city government team used the KANO statue as a symbol of Chiayi City 12 years ago to unite the emotions and centripetal force of Chiayi people, which continues to this day; his grandfather, painter Chen Chengbo, painted the Chiayi cityscape 100 years ago. With the changes of the times, Chiayi continues to build and change. Now the central water fountain ring has been fully repaired, presenting a brighter and more energetic city appearance.

The Municipal Construction Department stated that the renovation project of the central fountain ring started on February 1 this year and was completed on September 8 this year. The renovation includes renovating the copper to restore the "An Eagle with Spread Wings - KANO 1931" Wu Mingjie pitcher statue according to its original appearance, updating the fountain equipment, improving the pool structure and waterproofing system, and introducing energy-saving LED lighting to reproduce the colorful lights and shadows familiar to citizens.
