OTTAWA — Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney strongly condemned the recent Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia, particularly the deadly strike on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, describing them as “abhorrent” and declaring that attacks on civilian infrastructure can never be justified.

In a statement issued Sunday, Carney denounced the targeting of civilians and stressed that no political or military objective could justify such violence.

“The Houthi attacks on the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and in particular the strike on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, are abhorrent,” Carney said.

“There can be no justification for attacks on civilian infrastructure. No political or military objective can justify the deliberate targeting of innocent people,” he added.

“Canada condemns these reckless acts of violence in the strongest possible terms. We extend our deepest condolences to the families of those killed and wish a full recovery to those injured.”

Carney's statement followed Saturday's attack on King Khalid International Airport, which killed 12 people and injured 309 others, according to Saudi Arabia's General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA).

The fatalities included four Saudi citizens, two Bangladeshis and one national each from the United States, Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Palestine and Sudan.
