Police charges in a protest for the right to housing in Valencia

Riot agents from the National Police have charged against protesters participating in the protest called in Valencia by four groups in defense of the right to housing.

Called by the Tenants Union of Valencia, the Sindicat d'Habitatge de València, the Platform for People Affected by Mortgage (PAH) and the coordinator of neighborhood assemblies Entrebarris, the protest started from Porta de la Mar and went to the Palau de Les Arts, where a real estate investment congress is being held.

The police device prepared to prevent the protesters from accessing the City of Arts venue, upon verifying that a large group of people had managed to access the place by overcoming the installed fences, used the firing of rubber balls and smoke canisters against the crowd. At the moment, the situation is tense, with hundreds of people stationed and issuing proclamations in front of the police cordon.

Before the start, the spokesperson for the Tenants' Union, Andrea Aleixos, explained her plans to create strike committees so that assemblies can be held in all work and educational centers in order to call a general strike, after failing to approve some decrees that were "minimum."

José Luis González Meseguer, spokesperson for the PAH, explained that "at the moment" they do not plan to carry out actions such as a camp or a sit-in for housing, as they have focused their forces on today's demonstration, after which "a new dynamic will open."

Where a camp has been called is in Alicante, starting at six in the afternoon, in front of the Subdelegation of the Government of Spain, in the Plaza de la Montanyeta, where the promoters of the protest intend to replicate the Puerta del Sol model and establish themselves without a deadline.
