18 pays en mars, plus de 100 visés en décembre

Le 3 mars 2026, Visa et Bridge ont annoncé vouloir étendre ces cartes à plus de 100 pays d’ici la fin de l’année. Après l’Amérique latine, le déploiement doit gagner l’Europe, l’Asie-Pacifique, l’Afrique et le Moyen-Orient.

Les cartes fonctionnaient alors dans 18 pays. Fin avril, Bridge en annonçait 30. Le 5 octobre, Stripe a réaffirmé l’objectif des 100 pays.

Lancer une carte d’entreprise dans un nouveau pays demande en principe de nouer des accords avec des banques locales. Avec les stablecoins, une entreprise cliente de Stripe pourrait s’en passer. Stripe et Bridge prennent en charge l’émission des cartes et la conversion des stablecoins.

Aucune liste de pays n’a été publiée. En France, l’arrivée dépendra aussi des entreprises qui distribuent ces cartes. L’application Morse y est déjà ouverte, mais sa carte n’est proposée que dans 16 pays, aux États-Unis et en Amérique latine.

De 403 millions à 1,2 milliard de dollars d’achats en un an

Ce marché est déjà bien occupé. En septembre, la trentaine de programmes de cartes crypto suivis par le site Paymentscan ont réglé 1,2 milliard de dollars d’achats. Un an plus tôt, ils en réglaient 403 millions, soit 3 fois moins.

Le nombre de paiements a doublé, à 11,5 millions par mois. Le montant moyen d’un achat est passé de 71 à 106 dollars.

Le marché est mené par des spécialistes de la crypto : RedotPay, qui pèse à lui seul environ un tiers des dépenses, puis EtherFi et KAST.

Les cartes crypto règlent aujourd’hui environ 1 000 fois moins d’achats chaque mois que le seul réseau Visa.

Privy, Tempo, Open USD : la stratégie crypto de Stripe

Les cartes ne sont qu’une partie de la stratégie crypto de Stripe. Le groupe a racheté Privy, spécialiste des wallets, en 2025. En mars 2026, Stripe et le fonds Paradigm ont lancé Tempo, une blockchain dédiée aux paiements.

Beaucoup des programmes de cartes de Stripe utilisent aujourd’hui l’USDC de Circle. Le 30 septembre est arrivé Open USD, un stablecoin émis par Bridge et conçu pour concurrencer l’USDC et l’USDT.

Open Standard, la société derrière Open USD, compte plus de 200 entreprises partenaires. Ses premiers investisseurs sont Stripe, Coinbase, Shopify, Visa et Mastercard. Open USD partage les revenus de ses réserves avec ses partenaires.

Henri Stern assure que Stripe restera « totalement agnostique » et laissera ses clients choisir leur stablecoin comme leur blockchain. Open Standard présente pourtant Open USD comme le stablecoin par défaut des clients de Stripe.

La DeFi parmi les pistes de Stripe

Le groupe étudie aussi la DeFi et l’acceptation de nouvelles cryptos, sans calendrier annoncé. « De loin, l’essentiel de notre travail porte sur les stablecoins », nuance Henri Stern.

Un solde en USDC peut servir à payer avec ces cartes. Il peut aussi être prêté sur des protocoles DeFi, pour viser un rendement payé par les emprunteurs, indépendant de la direction du marché. Les membres du Club 25% le font déjà, depuis leur propre wallet.
