Indonesian company employee arrested on suspicion of infant abandonment

On the 23rd, the Saitama Prefectural Police Investigative Division 1 and Yorii Police Station announced the arrest of Tripita Lestari (21), an Indonesian company employee from Hatakeyama, Fukaya City, on suspicion of abandoning an infant at home. ``I hid the baby's body because I thought that if the company found out that there was a baby's body, I would be fired and the police would arrest me,'' he said, admitting to the charges.

According to prefectural police, Tripita is suspected of abandoning the infant's body at his apartment in Fukaya City around December 20, 2025. The body was placed in a transparent plastic bag and placed in a cardboard box. The baby girl was recently born, and Tripita appears to have given birth alone at home.

Tripita entered the country in October 2025 as a technical intern trainee. In response to an investigation by prefectural police, she reportedly gave an explanation to the effect that ``I thought I would be sent back to my country after I had a child.'' There were no obvious signs of trauma to the body, and prefectural police are investigating the cause of death.
