CDU in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania worried about five percent hurdle before state elections

The deputy chairman of the CDU parliamentary group in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Marc Reinhardt, is worried about the CDU's entry into parliament before the state elections. The party's situation in the state is not good. “There is concern about failure at the five percent hurdle,” Reinhardt told the “Tagesspiegel” (Saturday).

The “Tagesspiegel” also quoted the former party and parliamentary group leader in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Eckhardt Rehberg, who said: “According to the surveys, there is a risk that the CDU will fall out of the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania state parliament.”

The state election in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is on September 20th. In a survey by the Elections Research Group, the CDU is at seven percent. If she does the same in the election, it would be her worst result in a state election since the founding of the Federal Republic.

CDU top candidate Daniel Peters told Welt-TV that the party was “in a serious situation” due to the increasing intensity of the election campaign and the ongoing criticism of the federal government. “We are now fighting a battle for existence.”

Criticism of Prime Minister Schwesig's election campaign

Rehberg accused the Prime Minister and SPD top candidate Manuela Schwesig of polarization during the election campaign. This is the reason for the CDU's threatening weakness. Schwesig makes the AfD strong, as surveys show.

Green Party co-federal leader Franziska Brantner also criticized Schwesig. She told the “Augsburger Allgemeine” (Saturday): “An election victory for Manuela Schwesig is worthless if the Greens do not enter the state parliament.”
