NEW DELHI: Four men were apprehended in Delhi in connection with a viral social media video allegedly showing a protestor being assaulted, according to a police communication.
The video has been widely circulated on social media, with multiple handles, including those associated with the Indian Youth Congress, the All India Students’ Association (AISA) and the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), reposting it and sharing posters targeting the individuals seen allegedly assaulting the woman.
According to the police communication, the incident reportedly took place on a stretch of DDU Marg under the jurisdiction of Kamla Market police station. Police said no complaint had been received from the alleged victim or any other person or organisation so far.
However, they received information that the accused were planning to leave the Delhi-NCR region during the night and subsequently go underground. “In view of the viral nature of the video and the possibility of the accused absconding,” the four men were discreetly traced and taken into custody, the communication said.
The men have been identified as Raman Saini, 50; Vivekanand alias Vivek, 32; Kapil Kumar, 27; and Ravinder Singh alias Govind Hindu, 35. The police communication said further necessary action could be taken during the day, as required.
