League Congress, Garavaglia: 'I would like Zaia, Durigon, Giorgetti and Salvini in the team'

"I thank Massimo for offering us the opportunity to have a debate in the only place where it is appropriate to have a debate. We are here because, as with Massimo, for me for 36 years the League is my family, my children know it, those who live with me, my parents, for how many of you the League comes before the family?". Matteo Salvini said it from the stage of the extraordinary congress of the League, underway in Milan.

The other candidate for the secretary, Massimo Garavaglia, spoke before him. "We tried buying a player and it didn't work. But a player is on the market and if a better offer arrives, he goes. "Why did I run? Because the goal is to reverse the trend, we have to wake up," said Garavaglia. "The polls are indications, they give a direction. We got 8.8% in the elections and we did not grow. We must grow," he added. "Should we ever win, there will be no retaliation, no punishment, no blacklist: we are a family"

The second and final day of the congress began almost an hour late due to technical problems, in the Allianz MiCo congress center in Milan. Lorenzo Fontana, who chairs the assembly, apologized, saying: "Artificial intelligence is evidently not that intelligent yet, we have room to survive."

Today the two candidates for the secretariat will compete: the resigning Matteo Salvini and the challenger Massimo Garavaglia, senator and former minister in the Draghi government. Whoever wins will remain at the helm of the party for 4 years, until 2030.

There is anticipation for what Salvini will also say about the new bodies desired in the statute, and approved yesterday, and what role Luca Zaia could have. They are the political secretariat made up of 9 members and the federal coordinator of the secretariats, both chosen by the leader who can revoke them.
