A Ukrainian citizen was sentenced in the United States to four years for cyber fraud using Conti

Ukrainian citizen Alexei Litvinenko was sentenced in the United States to four years in prison on charges of cyber fraud, the US Department of Justice said.

In mid-June, the FBI reported that Litvinenko had pleaded guilty to ransomware fraud.

“Alexey Alekseevich Litvinenko, 44, a citizen of Ukraine, was today sentenced to four years in prison for conspiracy to commit wire fraud,” the Justice Department said in a statement.

According to US authorities, Ukrainian citizen Litvinenko conspired with accomplices to distribute Conti malware, which infected more than a thousand computers around the world. With the help of this software, the extortionists enriched themselves by $150 million, the US Department of Justice stated.
